The recent resignation of the Students’ Union’s LGBT Rights Officer has meant that Rainbow Week, the annual week dedicated to highlighting LGBT issues on campus, has been postponed until the last week in January.
Eoin O’Domhnaill, who had also held the post in the previous academic year, has said that the resignation was “entirely due to personal commitments” which meant that he would “not be able to devote the energy and attention to the role of LGBTRO that it deserves.”
In his statement, O’Domhnaill added that he wished “Cónan and the other members of the exec all the best.”
After his resignation on Monday the 5th of October, the SU executive committee made the decision to push back Rainbow Week from Week 8 of this term to Hilary Term 2010.
In the meantime, the position of LGBT RO remains open. Any member of the college who idetifies themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender is eligible to run for the position.
Education Officer, Ashley Cooke has said that, at time of going to press, he had not been contacted by any parties interested in running for the position.
Those interested in running for the position would have to nominate themselves to be voted in by reps at the first SU Council of the year, on the 20th of October.
