USI welcome greens commitment on fees

The Union of Students in Ireland have again welcomed the Green Party’s commitment that they will ensure that there is no reintroduction of student fees in the lifetime of the government.

USI Deputy President Dan O’Neill said “the moves by the Minister for Education to reintroduce student fees made no sense in a time when we are reliant on the smart economy for our recovery. We welcome the commitments obtained by the Green Party in the new Programme for Government regarding third level fees and will be working with them as much as possible to ensure that higher and further education provides the basis for our economic recovery.”

Concluding, Dan O’Neill said “the Minister for Education Batt O’Keeffe needs to honour the commitments in the program for government regarding third level education and refrain from introducing fees through the back door in the guise of a rise in the registration fee.”
