Candidates for The Leadership Race 2015 were announced this evening at 5.30pm on the steps of House Six in anticipation of The Leadership Race 2015, the process whereby next year’s sabbatical officer team are elected. Kieran McNulty, Chair of the Electoral Emission (EC) made the announcement of candidates alongside Education Officer, Katie Byrne. An unprecedented number of candidates are running this year, totalling seventeen, the most candidates to run for election in some time.
President
- Gabriel Adewusi
- Nessan Harpur
- Conor O’Meara
- Lynn Ruane
- Adam Colton
A large pool of candidates means that the presidential race is one to watch this year, and is sure to be exciting. There are students from all three major faculties, AHSS, EMS and Health Sciences, competing in this race.
Education
- Molly Kenny
Molly Kenny seems set to follow in her predecessor’s footsteps, with an uncontested Education race this year.
Welfare
- Conor Clancy
- Muireann Montague
- Liam Mulligan
- Aoife O’Brien
- Louise O’Toole
Since last year’s photo-finish between Ian Mooney and Dan McFadden, the Welfare race has attracted plenty of speculation surrounding prospective candidates. Most candidates hail from EMS, meaning we could be set for another close race in 2015 as candidates compete for votes in their home faculty.
Communications and Marketing
- Aifric Ni Chriodain
- Jemma O’Leary
Early rumours suggested that the Communications and Marketing race would require a re-opening of nominations for the first time in many years. However, the only two-horse race of the year means that competition could heat up quickly as campaign teams collide for this position.
Ents
- Katie Cogan
- David Gray
- Conor Parle
True to form, candidates in the Ents race remain mysterious right until the last moment – the three competing above are sure to liven up the campus as they vie for attention, and attempt to stand out.
Editor of The University Times
- Edmund Heaphy
The first elected independent editor of the The University Times, Heaphy looks set to walk his race, with no competitors in sight.
The Leadership Race will take place from the 2nd until the 12th of February, with a campaign period of eleven days. Votes are collected in the second week, before being counted on the night of February 12th.
