The Erasmus exchange programme is named for the Renaissance scholar Erasmus, who spent much of his life travelling, studying and teaching across Europe. In that time, covering that much ground without the bonus of Ryanair or Schengen-approved borderless travel certainly allowed for Erasmus to get all the more recognition for his feat.
