In Martha C Nussbaum’s book Sex and Social Justice, she outlines the seven ways one can treat another human being as a thing. It can range, among other methods, from using them for one’s own gain (instrumentality), dismissing their lived experiences (denial of subjectivity), treating them as something to be broken into (violability) or simply denying them a voice.
