After Months of Deliberation, Citizens’ Assembly Votes to Replace, not Repeal, Eighth Amendment

In a blow to supporters of a repeal of the eighth amendment, the Citizens’ Assembly today narrowly voted to recommend that the eighth amendment be replaced or amended, rather than removed from the constitution. The result of the vote means that the assembly, after months of deliberation, will recommend that the eighth amendment be retained in the Constitution, as opposed to being removing it entirety.
