All the Places to Get Free Coffee in Dublin Today

Today will see small independent cafes give away free coffee in a bid to fight the power of corporate coffee joints.

To all coffee aficionados – today is your lucky day. Tuesday will see nearly 20 small independent coffee shops give away free coffee to all those in need of a cup of joe. Hurrah!

This gracious gift is in response to yet another big coffee chain opening its doors on Crampton Quay. Supposedly, another Starbucks will be establishing its presence in the centre of town. This will be the 53rd branch in Dublin to date.

In light of this fact, today one can show support for local independent businesses, as well as enjoying a steamy cup of caffeine. Everyone’s a winner!

Independent coffee shops offer something that no chain can replicate – individuality, enhanced by the smaller, more personal feel of service. Many places have their own special blend of bean and this is something that should be celebrated. It sure beats an industrial cup of coffee served in a generic paper cup and personalised only by your name, which has been scrawled on, and most probably spelt wrong.

With Dublin’s ever growing thirst for good coffee driving the demand for more and more cafe openings, it’s no wonder that big corporations are taking advantage of this appetite. It is up to Dubliners to chose how to sate themselves. By choosing coffee from independently owned cafes, one can positively boost local enterprise whilst sipping on a specially prepared flat white.

Participating venues will have their own times and criteria for receiving a free cup but, as a general rule, you can expect to grab your coffee of choice between the times of 8am to 9 am, 1pm to 2pm and 5pm to 7pm.

Here is a list of coffee shops that will be taking part in this celebration of the sweet black stuff:

The Clockwork Door, Foam Cafe, Coco Brew, Il Fornaio Enoteca, Celtic Cookie Company, Coffee Cartel Coffee Cart, Gallaher and Co, Shoe Lane Cafe, Dwarf Jar, The Joy Of Cha, The Stage Door, The Tram Cafe, The Bus Stop Cafe, Metro Cafe, BG Cafe and Deli, IFI Cafe, Tamp and stitch, The Yellow Cup.

Due to incorrect information provided to The University Times, an earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the coffee shop Kaph would be taking part in the free coffee day. In fact, the coffee shop is not giving away free coffee.
