Trinity’s gate and laneway at 189 Pearse St is set to close until late December to facilitate ongoing construction of the Business School.

The gate will remain closed between July 23rd and December 17th, according to an email sent out to staff and students. Pearse St gate is normally open from 6.45am to 7pm. Students have swipe access to enter the College after this.

Students and staff members have been advised to plan alternative routes to enter and exit the College, with the nearest gate at the Science Gallery.

The two gates on Pearse St provide a convenient access point for nurses coming from D’Olier St campus. Two years ago, nursing representatives, at a meeting of Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) council, proposed a motion to campaign for extended opening hours of the gate nearest Pearse St Garda Station. The motion was passed and while no changes were made to opening hours of that gate, students were granted swipe access to the gate nearest the Business School construction, after TCDSU lobbying.

With ongoing construction on the new Business School and on the Printing House Square development, where purpose-built student accommodation is being built on the site of Oisín House, Pearse St may experience considerable disruption in the coming year.

The Business School is estimated to be completed some time during the second term of this year.

Correction: July 16th, 2018
An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the gate that will be closed. It is, in fact, Pearse St Gate East that is closing and not the main pedestrian gate outside the Garda Station.
