Alas, freshers’ week is drawing to a close. We laughed, we cried, we danced, we ate too much pizza but now we’re just about ready for the weekend. Make the most of the last day of freshers’ week and join those societies you’ve been meaning to get involved in. And remember, this isn’t the end of society activity on campus. It’s only the beginning and you can always join things throughout the year.

Hungover Yoga

Make the last morning of Freshers Week as chilled as it should be by joining DU Yoga Society for a “Hungover Yoga” session. The class will be held in the Graduates Memorial Building (GMB) at 11am and there are whispers that the Happy Pear and their new best mate Russell Brand may make an appearance. Don’t quote us on that one though.

Picnic in the Green:

This is DU Vegan Society’s first-ever freshers’ week and they’re having a great time. To round off the week in the most healthy and sociable way possible, the society invites you to a picnic in St Stephens Green beginning at 1pm. Guests are invited to try vegan treats or bring some of their own vegan food to add to the picnic.

John O’Keefe speaks to The Phil:

At 12pm today in the GMB, the University Philosophical Society (the Phil) will honour Prof John O’Keefe with the Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage. The event will be held in association with Bio Soc. Professor O’Keefe is a neuroscientist and professor at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour and the Research Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at University College London. Internationally renowned for his discovery of place cells in the hippocampus, in 2014 O’Keefe received the Kavli Prize. He is also a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which he was awarded in 2014. The Phil recommends getting to the GMB early to ensure a seat.

DU Players Murder Mystery:

In conjunction with Trinity Arts Festival, DU Players will host the Murder Mystery: Night at the Theatre. An immersive murder mystery is promised, with attendees attempting to solve the deadly crime. Scenes, which feature events that took place in the run up to the fatal crime, will be witnessed and analysed. The interactive event asks guests to interview the cast, who will be dispersed around the building. Beginning at 8pm in the Players Theatre, two free drinks will be provided on arrival and there will be prizes in store for the team that unravels the mystery.

Law Soc Pub Crawl:

The Inaugural Lawsoc Nightime Tour of Dublin will gather at the Pav at 8pm. Although little has been revealed regarding the locations, one assumes that they’ll be the classiest venues in town.

Trinity Ents Charity Night Battle of the Bands:

Wrapping up freshers’ week 2018 is the annual Charity Battle of the Bands. Newly introduced this year, the event is the brainchild of Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) Ents Officer David Flood. Starting off in the Pav, the night will move to The Grand Social for some of the best live music Trinity students have to offer, followed by DJ sets. Societies taking part on the night include Suas Trinity, Trinity VDP, Volunteer Tuition Programme (VTP), Trinity Free Legal Advice Clinic (FLAC), Trinity MOVE Charity and DU Amnesty International. Music lovers should not miss this fantastic event.
