Edmund Heaphy will become the seventh editor of The University Times, and the first independently elected editor of this publication, following The Leadership Race 2015. Heaphy was elected with 88 per cent of the vote of Trinity students.

A native of Cork, Edmund is a Senior Freshman TSM German and Philosophy student.

Edmund acted as Creative Director for the broadsheet, magazine and supplement of this publication for 2013/14, during his first year in Trinity, and was one of the senior writers for The University Times Magazine. Several of his stories received national media attention – particularly his interview with Fine Gael councillor Darren Scully.

This year, Edmund has acted as the newspaper’s youngest-ever Deputy Editor. He is also the youngest person elected Editor since the paper started circulation.

As the first independently elected editor of the publication, Edmund ran on a platform of media expansion, establishing the role for the future, and the creation of a new supplement called “Radius” which will aim to better cover society events around the College.

Edmund’s successful election will see him act as the first editor of The University Times that does not also act as Communications Officer for Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union.

Edmund will take office in July, and we wish him the best of luck in his new role.
