If you’re on the hunt for lunch for under €10 close to college, Ku Raudo offers a delicious Bento Box for €8.99. Bento means “convenient” and, given that this place is on Townsend Street, this rings true.

The restaurant itself is quite small, seating a maximum of 20 people. Its furnishings are simple and elegant, with pale wooden furniture and red napkins. Evidently Ku Raudo is all about its food.

Upon arrival, you’re presented with complimentary green tea, served ceremoniously from an ornate teapot. The menu at Ku Raudo changes regularly, with each set menu having a meat option and a vegetarian option. You can check their Facebook page daily to see what they have on offer.

The quantity of food in the bento box is quite substantial. I tried Kuro Kosho Beef, which was tender and tasty with a rich sauce packed full of flavour. There was a small salad with pieces of deep fried chicken and two pieces of California sushi roll, which were exceptional. A large serving of steamed rice was also in the box. For the sweet tooth, there were four little pieces of mantou, a sweet bun bread.

The bento box also came with a side serving of miso soup infused with spring onion. The food was plentiful and varied, and the service was impeccable. While I was dining, at least three people stuck their head in to check what was on the menu that day. There seems to be a large amount of regulars who come back time and time again, which is a good indicator that the food on offer is worthy of a return visit.
